A Norwegain F-35 Pilot, Major Morten "Dolby" Hanche countered the controversial "Dogfighting Report" that accused that the aircraft was inferior to the F-16 in air combat.  But this Pilot instructor said that it was not inferior, but actually had more aggressive potential than the F-16 as it's hard breaking ability made it actually better to get the attack vector on enemy aircraft in a dog fight.  He further added that the lack of visibility it had compared to the F-16 would not be a major problem in a dog fight as the F-35 had visibility that was not quite as good as the F-16 Fighting Falcon, but was as good as many other fighters available.

Also an American Attack pilot used to the A-10 Warthog and the F-35 gives his opinion on the difference between the two fighters.

Admittedly, I have decried attempts to replace the Wartong with the F-35 in the past, but Lt. Col. Raja Chari makes some good points.  He attests that the A-10 is ideal in a low air threat environment, however vulnerable in a high air threat environment as they are vulnerable to air to air missiles.  He states that the F-35 lacks the range and payload of the A-10, however with its lack of loitering ability it makes up with superior speed, able to land and take off quickly to return to the theater of battle. *However he is quite sure that F-35 is the ideal replacement in the fighter bomber role for the F-15 Strike Eagle and the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

I personally disagree with some of his findings, despite his good points.  As in Vietnam, that attitude only flew so far during that war and many of our pilots ended up in enemy hands never to be seen again.
