Part Two: Kid Thunder joins Titans East

It was a few weeks since Lightning Bolt started patrolling the city in her new look with the Titans East.  Speedy called off the patrol early tonight, as he and a few of the other Titans had to be ready for a special practice session that morning for The Titan's East Tryouts.  Natalie wasn't part of the preparations, so she decided to go find something fun to do instead.  She wandered into the local mall and began going through some clothes racks at some of the stores.  "Hey!  You must be Lightning Bolt!" she heard an unfamiliar voice say.  She turned to girl of African American descent smiling at her.  "You a fan of The Titan's East?", Natalie replied.  "Oh no, I like Super Heroes.  I hope be one someday!  My name's Anissa!"

"You know me as Lightning Bolt.  My friends call me LB!  How did you recognize me if you aren't a fan?  I've only been wearing this costume a few weeks!" Natalie replied suspiciously.  "I tried on costume at Gambi's to see if it would fit you!" Anissa quickly replied.  "Wait!  What?  Oh!  I remember!  You must be Bumblebee's friend!" Natalie said in remembering that Bumblebee had a friend who had her same height and build try on her new costume first to make sure it would fit her.  Natalie looked over Anissa and realized she was same height and build as she was.  "Actually it's my cousin that is friends with Bumblebee!  She keeps promising to introduce me to her." Anissa responded.  "Well, I can introduce you to Bumblebee and the rest of the Titans!" Natalie offered.  "That would be so cool!  OH, I have to get going!  It was nice meeting you!", Anissa told Natalie.  "Let have your number so I can contact you about meeting Bumblebee!" Natalie replied.  But Anissa was already to far away for her to hear her as she disappeared into the crowded mall.

Lightning Bolt began rapidly searching through the mall, trying to catch Anissa before she left so she could get a number to text her again.  After some searching later she saw three men crouched suspiciously behind a van in the parking lot.  Natalie remembered there was some girl kidnapping ring in the city that Speedy told her about, and that might be what they were doing she thought.  She found a hiding place and watched the men as they set themselves ready to pounce.  Suddenly Anissa walked out from behind the van the three men where waiting behind.  Natalie leaps up from her hiding place in an effort to warn Anissa away from them.  Suddenly one of the men jumped Anissa from behind and held a switchblade to her throat.

Natalie leapt out and began to charge the men, when suddenly one of the men growled at the man holding Anissa, "What's wrong!  Bring her!"  The man holding Anissa tried to drag her in vain as he replied, "I don't know!  Somehow she's to heavy!"  Anissa replied to him, "No, the problem is you're too weak!"  With a quick throw Anissa sent the man hurtling in the air.  Before the man could land, Anissa turned towards the two others and stamped her foot on the ground.  Her stamping caused a ground quake which knocked the two other men off their feet and sent every car burglar alarm in the parking lot into blaring frenzy.

The Mall Police arrived shortly there after to pick up the men as Lightning Bolt stood there and spoke with the head officer.  She explained she had apprehended the men when they tried to kidnap Anissa.  Grabbing her T Communicator, Lightning Bolt quickly texted out a full report for the head officer, she then told her that already faxed the report to her office.  "That's a pretty neat little device!  It sure make my job easier!" The Head officer replied as she admired the T Communicator.  "I'm told Wayne Tech is already working on Police Department Model" Natalie replied to her compliment.  "Send me the info on it when it comes out, I am sure our officers will all want one!" The Head Officer said as she was leaving.  After the Mall Police where gone, Anissa turned to Natalie saying, "Thank you so much for covering for me!  My Dad would kill me for using my powers in public"  Natalie replied, "You have Super Powers and your Dad doesn't let you use them in public?  Doesn't he know you should use your powers for the common good?"  Anissa sighed, "It's complicated.  He supports that, but he's afraid it get in the way of us getting a good education.  I wish I could use my powers for good, but my Dad's just not cool with that.  I mean, how do your parents let you join the Titans?"  Natalie looked down at the ground and then spoke, "My Parents are dead, my brother, my sister, all killed by a very evil man named Slade.  The only family I have now is The Titans."  Anissa was shocked upon hearing this, and replied "I don't know what I would do if that happened to me.  My Dad and Sister are all the family I have.  I'd hate have something evil like that happened to me.  But they caught this guy and punished him?"  Natalie responded tersely, "No, he's one of the Titan's worst enemies!  He's nearly arranged for their destruction several times.  He still trying to catch me.  Dios mio, (My God,) I worry one day he's going to get me."  Anissa looked at Natalie, "That's... that's not gonna happen.  Look, I gotta go.  Here's my number so you can text me."

At her cousin's house, Anissa was bothered by the story Lightning Bolt had told her.  She rolled of the bed in the guest room and sat down in front on the computer there.  She logged online and then got on a chat forum called The Global Peace Association, an internet vigilante forum that battled the evils of the world through hacking.  Being an expert hacker herself, Anissa had a reputation there as the member "Th0nd3rBr!ng3r".  She began asking around the forums if anyone had heard of the name SLADE.  Her fellow hackers warned her to stay away from that thread.  Those who tried to find Slade would disappear, not matter where they located were in the world.  Several GPA member have gone missing, and many of the forum suspect they were investigating Urban Legend of the assassin called Slade, Deathstroke, and The Terminator.  Anissa logged off the forum, and using her Dad's password she managed to get on The Justice League's Database.  "Welcome Black Lightning" the computer screen replied to her correct password.  She typed in the search box, SLADE, and suddenly dozens of file link began to scroll up.  She read through many of the links, and began to learn the Justice League itself had once tried to take down Slade, but he was too slippery for their grasp and they had an ongoing investigation into his activities.  But they did know his real name, Slade Wilson, a former Meta Human Army Soldier and Gun for hire who had grown tired of serving others interests and decided to strike out and build and empire of his own.  He had connections to The Society, HIVE Academy, and even Supernatural entities.  Anissa logged off and decided to get ready for bed.  

She then woke up later and suddenly remembered something she had her cousin hide for her.  She pulled it out from where she hid it a while ago with an air conditioning duct.  The box said Gambi's and was covered in dust.  Anissa cleaned it off and then opened it.  She reached inside and pulled out a long blond wig.

As the sun rose to announce the next day, the Titan's East were readying the obstacle coarse for the Titan's tryouts.  Wonder Girl was present with the other Titans and she was texting down information as she checked the obstacle coarse.  Kid Flash ran up beside her and got her attention by yelling "Donna!"  Wonder Girl looked at him and replied "Wally?  What's going on?  I thought you were registering the recruits with Speedy!"  Kid Flash said in exasperation, "It happens every year!  Someone wants a name that another Titan already has, except I am not sure the person is registered as a Titan or not already.  Should we still consider the name claimed?"  Donna quipped, "What name did this person want?"  Kid Flash replied, "Thunder.  You see my problem here, are Thunder and Lightning part of the Titans?"  Donna reminded Wally, "Remember when Natalie joined our group?  She wanted Lightning initially, but since Thunder and Lightning were already honorary Titans she couldn't take that name.  That's why she's called Lightning Bolt.  That person will have to take a variant on the name like Thunder Boy or Girl or whatever."  "Alright.", Kid Flash said as he raced back to the recruitment table.

Young teenage girl in body suit that covered body in Purple and Yellow fabric with reddish highlights stood there waiting patiently at the recruitment table.  Only her long blond hair made her really stand out from the crowd of recruiting trying out for the Titans.  Kid Flash suddenly appeared in the seat and spoke, "I am sorry, miss.  The name Thunder has already been taken by an honorary Titan.  You can pick a variant name like "Thunder Girl or Thunder Flash?"  The girl was taken back by that response, she had always thought of having that name when she became a superhero one day and the disappointment of not getting it was clouding her mind.  Her mind was drawing a blank as Kid Flash replied "Have you an idea for a name?"  "Kid Thunder?" the girl absentmindedly spoke.  Kid Flash's face lit up with a smile, he received much ribbing from the other Titan's for choosing the name "Kid Flash", but it was much better than Flash Boy or Flash Junior and he hoped one day of taking his mentor's mantle and becoming The Flash himself one day.  "Okay, let's go over the form here and we'll get you started.  There's just a few questions I have on your application." Wally told Kid Thunder.

Speedy sat at the next table and looked up the another recruit an African American that wore a more casual outfit that consisted of a blue jacket and a electrical themed tee shirt, his dreadlocks hung over his white mask made him stand out from the others.  "Static of Dakota City?  You stand over there and wait for Lightning Bolt to take you out to the obstacle course.   Lightning Bolt and Aqualad, come over here please!", Speedy said to them.  Aqualad was teasing Natalie when Speedy summoned them over, "Looks like they got you in several flavors this year, Lightning Bolt!  I see blue berry over there _points at Static_ and Tropic Citrus Grape over there _points at Kid Thunder_"  Speedy overheard Aqualad's comment, "This is my favorite flavor right here!  Come here you!" he said as he reached up to kiss Natalie.  "Mmmhm!  So is that all you needed?", Natalie said with a smile.  "Actually I need you to take out those two electrical heroes to the obstacle course because your the one to best judge their electric attacks.  Not problem?" Speedy said as he gazed into her eyes.  "Not a problem." Natalie spoke and then beckoned Kid Thunder and Static to follow her. 

As the three of them were walking together, Static began to sing "Have You Ever Beeeen? Have You Ever Been?  To Elec-Tric Layhdeh Laand!"  Kid Thunder began to facepalm, "Oh gosh, you're as big a dork as my Dad!"  Natalie began to chuckle at the comment.  "Kinda looks like my Dad too.", Kid Thunder thought to herself as she scowled at Static under her mask.  Natalie pointed out to Static the place he should stand, "Go over there and let's see your Electrical attack."  Static made a deferring gesture to Kid Thunder, "Ladies first"  Natalie turned to Kid Thunder, "Okay, let's see what you can do then."  Kid Thunder walked towards the spot where she was directed and responded, "I don't really have an electrical attack.  Let me show you..."  With that Kid Thunder stamped on the ground and made the earth shake.  "My name Thunder, Kid Thunder comes from the fact that I made a loud noise when I make that attack.  I can become super dense and heavy at will, which gives me super strength and invulnerability."  Static smiled and spoke, "Nice!  Since I got an electrical attack, I guess it's my turn to demonstrate it!"  Static walked over to the same place where Kid Thunder had demonstrated her abilities, while Kid Thunder walked back over to stand next to Natalie.

Natalie noticed that Kid Thunder was about her height and build, so she felt brave enough to ask as Static was out of earshot, "Anissa?  What are you doing here?"  Kid Thunder put an index to her lips, "Don't call me that, call me by my alias, Adanna Abioye."  Natalie stood next to Kid Thunder and said lowly and emotionally, "Carramba!  Why in heck do you need an alias?  What are you even doing here?  I thought you weren't coming!"  Kid Thunder replied to her in a low voice, "I read up on Slade.  I got an alias because he's probably watching you right now, looking for the right time to strike.  It's not right a nice person like you who is a hero has to spend her life running from a monster like Slade.  I think if we work together, we can bring him down.  Do we have a deal?"
